<h>Preparations for</h> Best of European Business are well on their way in seven countries. Our Spanish media partner "Expansión" provided its readers with an overview of the competition. Best of European Business' Spanish media partner, Expansión, featured a full article on 21 September, detailing the scale of the competition and provided readers with an insight into the deliberations of the Spanish jury meeting on 22 September. "The goal of the competition is to recognize those companies that are using innovation, liberalization, infrastructure development and the creation of services to strengthen social cohesion and make the EU-25 the most competitive region in the world by 2010," Josep Ros, Partner in Roland Berger's Madrid office said. 500 Spanish companies were reviewed to determine the short-list from which the judges will choose the winners based on the four categories that apply across all seven countries. The final short-list is composed of 35 large companies and 30 medium-sized enterprises. "This list will be handed over to the jury, who are all seasoned professionals and business leaders. They will verify the performance of these companies against our criteria and select the winners," Josep Ros said. | ||

The award ceremony will take place on 5 October in the Casino de Madrid and will be presided over by José Montilla, Spanish Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism. The winners of the national event will compete against the other companies selected in the seven competition countries for the final Best of European Business prize to be awarded in February 2006 at the European Summit in Brussels.
