Best of European Business
<h>The European Summit</h>, the capstone event of Best of European Business, will take place on Wednesday evening. The future of European competitiveness will be the focus of discussion between European business leaders and top politicians.

Roland Berger Strategy Consultants will be honoring the nine most competitive companies doing business in Europe together with the Financial Times. The awards will be presented at an exclusive Gala Dinner in the Musées d’Art et d’Histoire’, one of Brussels' most prestigious locations. Prior to the ceremony, a public discussion co-hosted by Brussels-based think-tank Friends of Europe will allow participants to debate the future of European competitiveness and the results of our comprehensive CEO survey with Paolo Scaroni, CEO of Italy's ENI conglomerate, Klaus Gretschmann, EU Director General for Internal Market, Competitiveness and Industry, Philip Lowe, EU Director General for Competition and Vincent Mercier, Member of the Executive Committee of Roland Berger. The debate will be moderated by George Parker, the Brussels Bureau Chief of "Financial Times".

The Gala Dinner, moderated by BBC Europe correspondent, Shirin Wheeler, will be attended by the winning companies' CEOs, and feature keynote speeches by EU Commission Vice President, Günter Verheugen and his colleague Commissioner Viviane Reding, who has gained Europe-wide appreciation recently over her campaign on world wide web ownership.
Nine industry awards will be presented on this occasion: Automotive, Fast Moving Consumer Goods/Retail, Financial Services Industrials, Oil/Gas, Pharma/Chemicals, Transportation/Tourism/Logistics, Telecommunications & Media, Utilities. In addition, a Corporate Governance award will be presented to the company deemed most transparent by the high-level panel of judges. Rounding out the evening will be the awarding of the "Grand Prix" chosen from the industry winners by the jury and presented by Commissioner Verheugen.

The winners will have the occasion to comment on their outstanding performance in the context of the EU's Lisbon Agenda in a panel discussion with one of the architects of the Lisbon process, Professor Maria João Rodrigues.

The European Summit , which will be attended by leading national and European politicians, some 100 business leaders alongside journalists and academics, represents the capstone of our "European Year," which began with the first of the seven national events in Paris in October of 2005.
